Albemarle EMC employees are ready to respond quickly should the approaching winter weather result in power outages.
Storm outages should be reported to the co-op, using our 24-hour outage reporting number 1-800-274-2072. Outages should never be reported through social media.
If you see a downed power line, report it immediately to Albemarle EMC or your power utility. Under no circumstances should anyone approach, touch or drive over a fallen power line.
Members can stay apprised of storm recovery efforts by visiting Albemarle EMC’s outage map, located at www.aemc.coop. The outage map provides close to real-time updates of power recovery efforts.
Members are advised not to run generators inside of their homes or any enclosed space. Portable generators exhaust carbon monoxide, which can lead to death if inhaled. Also, a generator should not be connected to a home’s wiring system, unless it is connected using a double-throw bypass switch. A generator that is connected to a home’s wiring system without a double-throw bypass switch can back-feed a power line causing an unsafe working situation for line crews. Instead, use the generator to supply power directly to an appliance.
