Albemarle EMC Prepares for Major Snowstorm

Friday | January 30, 2026
All News

Albemarle EMC is preparing for a major snow storm that has the potential for widespread outages.

High winds and significant snow accumulation are expected across our region, which could create power outages from fallen trees, limbs and infrastructure. Outages can be reported 24 hours a day by calling 252-426-5735. Outages should not be reported over social media. Members can track our outage restoration progress through our outage map located at www.outages.aemc.coop.

All Albemarle EMC employees will be on standby, ready to respond. Should outages occur, we will begin assessing damage and restoring service as quickly and safely as possible.

Portable generators should be operated in well-ventilated areas outside of a home and connected directly to an appliance. Make sure your generator is sufficient to supply ample power to the appliance being used. Portable generators should never be connected to a home’s wiring unless the home has a double-throw, bypass switch. The switch prevents the generator from backfeeding a power line and creating an unsafe situation for line crews.
